Disclaimer: For a better understanding of this post, you should be a Blitter, a user of Blip.fm whose account is merged with a twitter account. If you are not, see the Blip 101 and the twitter 101 :-)
Last week, I started a conversation with Jeremy about the difference between a "normal" tweet and a "blipped" one.
With the way I'm using Blip, there's no difference. A message sent from Blip.fm, as others are sent from twhirl, netvibes or slandr.
If you don't want to hear the song linked in, you don't have to, as for any other link not followed you don't click on, on "normal" tweets.
But it sounds manichean twitter land is in fact divided into, at least, two parts:
- those who read blipped tweets as they read others
- those who find blipped tweets too noisy
Well, it depends on how you are using Blip. As far as I'm concerned, when I use Blip as a player, I do not send songs I'm listening to, avoiding to selfspam my twitter account and maybe yours. Then, that's sometimes frustrating not to share.
So, a couple of weeks ago, I started with the idea to create a new twitter account dedicated to my blips, merged with a new blip account dedicated to songs I was listening to when I've got a musical logorrhea...
Once again, here I am, why keep it simple, when you can do it complicated? :-)
So, I let it go.
But since, I saw that the abundance of songs was also a concern for other Blitters I'm following. Richard or Shamir first announced they had created new twitter accounts dedicated to their Blip addiction.
So, after a first impulsive reaction "you do it wrong, a second Blip account is needed with a second twitter account", I went into the pipes to find out how to handle the flow, without spamming and keep it simple and comfortable. Well, it's easily possible and in a KISS way!
Ok, let's go :
- I've a blip account
- I've a main twitter account. When merged with the Blip one, each time I publish an update, it is automatically sent to my main twitter account. That's for the current affairs :-)
- I now have another twitter account http://twitter.com/MyBlip. When merged with my Blip account, I can blip and share around the clock without spamming those finding Blip updates too noisy. I just disable the @myriam account.
If you're still willing to be spammed by my musical logorrhea, just follow it on Blip or via http://twitter.com/MyBlip.
If you want to merge your own second twitter account with your Blip account, just go to settings then services, then follow the way. Don't forget to let me know, I dare to be spammed by songs when time to hear music comes.
You can still send me a reply @myriam from your blip account.
Tip about ! feature: When you don't want a blip update to be sent to another social network account, just start your update with a !
Do I sufficiently made things complicated? :-)
